I’d like to remind our parent community about photographing students at school events. It would be foolish for the school not to permit proud parents from capturing their children’s performances – of course , we want you to have those memories. The one caution that I’d like to offer is the temptation to post your footage on social media sites. We would ask that your digital images remain for your own personal use & that you be mindful of those students whom we do not have authority to photograph. Thanks for your consideration. Sincerely, Ms. Shirley

Presentations on Arts Education
Free presentations on arts education are offered by the OCDSB Advisory Committee on the Arts (ACA). For the third year, members of the ACA are visiting school councils across the district, giving presentations about the importance of arts education, and providing parents with ideas of how to support arts programs in their schools.
The presentations are no more than 30 minutes, unless otherwise requested. The ACA is an independent, standing committee made up of parents, artists, teachers, school trustees, and representatives of Ottawa’s arts organizations. Its members share a passion for the arts and a commitment to ensure that all OCDSB students have good programs in dance, drama, music and visual arts. For more information, or to book a presentation, contact ACA Co-Chair Judy Kirsh through your school Principal.

Sports and Activities at WEJ
The fall has been very busy for students at W Erskine Johnston. The junior cross-country team enjoyed a strong finish at the meet in October. Several members of the intermediate cross-country team participated in the board finals. The boys’ football team won the divisional title and participated in the board finals. The girls’ football team demonstrated great effort and attitude at their tournament. The intermediate boys’ and girls’ volleyball teams are practicing hard in anticipation of their upcoming competitions. Finally, band is well under way at WEJ, thanks to Mrs. Cooke. Students have been rehearsing in preparation for our Remembrance Day ceremony next Thursday. Please see the band page of the blog for rehearsal schedules and t-shirt order forms.
