Kanata Food Cupboard Holiday Project

Wow – this is quite something… our kids are amazing!

If you haven’t heard about our school-wide Holiday Project in sponsorship of the Kanata Food Cupboard … let me tell you about it.

This Friday, our students will have pulled together several Holiday Baskets for local families in need. Many homerooms are participating & most have paired up with a “buddy classroom” to make certain that a family in need has a yummy holiday dinner & a few presents to open for their loved ones.

Pick up and drop off of the baskets will occur on Friday morning, Dec 17th. If you are able to be a volunteer driver, please contact your child’s homeroom teacher.

Thank you so very much for your generous support of this community project.

Proudly,

Ms. Shirley

December News

Winter has arrived and the cold weather has arrived.  As we prepare for our winter holiday, please remember to ensure that your children come to school dressed for outdoor recess, even on those chilly days.  We make every attempt to get the children outside for some fresh air and exercise every day.

Lunch Reminders

Many students are visiting the office at nutrition breaks looking for forks and spoons for their lunches.  Please make sure that your child has utensils required for their lunches.  Also, we have many students who arrive at the office looking for food because they did not have enough in their lunch or they forgot their lunch at home.  Please take a few minutes to chat with your child about nutrition and whether or not they have enough in their lunches.

Incelment Weather – Transportation Cancellations

With winter weather setting in, there may be days when buses are cancelled.  Please note that you can get this information through our transportation website — http://www.ottawaschoolbus.ca/ – look in the panel on the left hand side of the page.

When buses are cancelled, schools remain open.  There is no need to contact the school if your child is a bus student who will miss school because of the transportation cancellation.  We only need to hear from parents who have a student who walks to school and won’t be in attendance that day.

If you drop your child off on a day when buses are cancelled, note that supervision on the yard begins at 9 am.  Students should not arrive prior to that time.  Also, the instructional day ends at 3:45 pm and you must pick up your child at that time.

Holiday Band Concert

Congratulations to Ms. Cooke and members of our bands who did a fantastic job performing for our community last Tuesday evening.  It is always amazing to see how far the students have come by this time of year.  You make us very proud.  Bravo!

As we head into flu season, I would like to take a moment to remind families of the importance of notifying the office when your child is going to be absent.  You can do so by using the email attendance button on the left side of the blog or by calling in at 613-592-4492.  Thank you for your cooperation in ensuring that all children are accounted for every day.
