Homework Help – Math Tutoring for Intermediate Students

Free Math Tutoring Online

Students taking grades 7 through 10 math courses have access to free math tutoring and other resources through the ministry funded program Homework Help. This is an exciting new online resource made available by the Ministry of Education and the Independent Learning Centre.

Homework Help is a website that offers free online math tutoring by Ontario Certified Teachers Sunday through Thursday from5:30PMto9:30PM.  The site also offers other rich resources available all day every day such as interactive tutorials, a glossary, a calculator, previously recorded best sessions, full lessons, and a locker to save the tutoring sessions that they had completed or watched.

Students and parents/guardians can view this site at http://HomeworkHelp.ilc.org.  Parents/guardians are encouraged to register their children at home so that students can start benefiting from the site right away.  To register, students must provide their Ontario Education Number (OEN).  The OEN can be found on each student’s timetable and report card.

For more information, please go to the Free Online Math Homework Help page posted on the board website (http://www.ocdsb.ca/stu/FreeOnlineMathHomeworkHelp/Pages/default.aspx) or visit the site directly. You could also contact your child’s teacher or the board contact Darrin Hughson, Instructional Coach – Homework Help, at darrin.hughson@ocdsb.ca

WEJ Makes a Mooove to Recycle Milk and Juice Cartons

Did you know that our school produces approximately 15 garbage bags of milk/juice carton waste each week? Students from our Green Team think it’s time for change! The material these cartons are made from can be recycled! Students can make a difference by simply taking their empty cartons home and recycling them in the blue box. According to our students, these are the main reasons for recycling milk/juice cartons…

Top 5 Benefits for Taking Home Milk Cartons & Juice Cartons for Recycling:

5) By doing so, we help reduce the waste materials that our school sends to our city’s landfill site.

4) No more liquid mess. Milk and juice will no longer drip from garbage bags at school.

3) Fewer flies and wasps will be attracted to our school’s garbage.

2) It saves money – the money the school board spends to truck away garbage and recyclable material from our school will be reduced.

1) You’ll feel good about yourself for making effective recycling a daily habit.

Here at WEJ, we are hoping for a whole-school effort to reduce the amount of garbage that we produce each day. All kids need to do is to make sure the lid is securely on their carton, and then “take it back” for recycling at home.

Thanks for your help teaching our children to be environmentally responsible – and for making a difference!

G.O.O.S. Box Challange

Congratulations goes out to Ms. Parliament and Mrs. Almeida’s class as the winners of the Kindergarten G.O.O.S Box Challenge!! For the Good On Other Side Challenge, Kindergarten classes were encouraged to fashion a box into a goose in order to hold paper that could be reused. Members of the WEJ Green Team are pictured here awarding the JK students their bird-friendly prize – a bird bath! With such a superb flock to choose from, it was difficult to decide on  a winner. Great job K Team!
