It is with mixed emotion that I have accepted Mr. Dave Turnbull’s retirement letter.
Mr. T – as the kids call him – has been a steady figure on the staff at WEJ for the past 27 years. He has the incredible gift of storytelling and because of this, has brought subjects such as history, alive for his students. The math program that he creates is intense, rigorous and rich in the types of activities he prepares. Students will tell you that they feel well-supported and well-prepared for the demands of secondary school after leaving Mr. Turnbull’s homeroom.
As well, many students will tell you that the environment in Mr. T’s classroom is second to none. The kids clearly understand what it means to be part of 8B. They know that Mr. T has their back in whatever obstacle comes their way. This is likely the reason that I receive so many parent requests for student placement in his class.
As the last few days of the year wrap up, please join me in wishing Dave nothing but the best in his retirement. I know that his impact will be long-standing in our school for many years to come.
Sincerely,
Ms. Shirley
