Accommodation Review

September 2012 – The Accommodation Review process is now complete.  Please visit www.ocdsb.ca for all background documentation about final outcomes and decisions.

April 20th, 2012 Update:  Our School Council has submitted a follow up to our March 5th presentation. In a 2 minute response allowed under the procedural rules, we cannot speak on anything we have presented on previously, or we will be ruled out of order. Please note that the Kanata North ARC has also prepared a presentation. This afternoon, the Board Agenda will be posted at www.ocdsb.ca. We will be presenting these thoughts at the April 24th Board meeting at 133 Greenbank. Below, you will see what we intend to communicate in our two minute allowance.

Thank you. Jen Ljungstom & Lisa Hall.  WEJ School Council Co-Chairs

“Representatives from W. Erskine Johnston served on the Kanata North ARC.  Our School Council encouraged wide-spread parent participation in the review process.  We spent many hours of our Council meeting time discussing options & possible solutions to our accommodation crisis.  We actively solicited parent feedback during our 16 month involvement in this process.

At the end of this we are hoping that a sustainable, long term solution will be adopted.

It has been because of our belief in due process where our voices could and would be heard that we have been able to make the necessary sacrifices of time away from the lives of our young families.  We would be hard pressed to have to go into another Accommodation Review in the near future.

One of the Ministry of Educations written goals is:

“Increased public confidence in publicly funded education”

This week I got a flyer at my door with the heading

“Are you rethinking education?” on it advertising the opening of a new private school for ages 6-14 in our neighbourhood.  As a long time supporter of public education the question honestly did stick in my mind more than it might have before this time.

We have fought the good fight, using the appropriate avenues available to us to have our voices heard.  We have kept the faith that a sustainable long-term solution for the education of our children is a real possibility.

It is our hope Trustees will listen, truly consider and adopt the ARC’s revised recommendations.”

March 6th – Last evening, the Trustees heard the delegations’ presentations from Kanata North.  The WEJ Parent Community was very well represented.  Our School Council was represented by Mrs. Sandy Cramm and their presentation was very comprehensive. Sandy and the other school council members did an excellent job in voicing their concerns about Staff Recommendations regarding the ARC.  We also had several parents speak as individuals about their thoughts and concerns.

The next meeting will occur on April 2nd, where Trustees will be debating / discussing next steps.  Trustees make their final decision on April 24th.

February 1,2012 – For up-to-date information regarding the Kanata North Elementary Accommodation Review process, please visit the OCDSB website.
